Arcadia City Council member Eileen Wang is under federal investigation following accusations that her fiancé, Mike Sun, engaged in illegal activities as a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agent. Sun, identified as Sun Yaoning in court filings, allegedly collaborated with Chinese operative Chen Jun, who has been convicted of bribery.
Wang, elected to the council in 2022, is described as “Individual 1” in federal documents. Sun, a former member of China’s military, reportedly managed her campaign and referred to her victory as advancing U.S.-China relations. He was arrested by the FBI on Dec. 19.

The couple’s business interests include the American Southwest Chamber of Commerce, which Wang founded to promote cross-cultural connections, and U.S. News Center, a Chinese-language outlet frequently covering Wang’s political career.

Campaign records show Wang reimbursed Sun for election-related costs. Arcadia’s city manager has stated that Sun had no involvement in local government operations, despite his reported influence on Wang’s campaign.

Federal investigators have linked Wang’s address to Sun’s last known residence. While she has not been charged, Wang has pledged full cooperation with the investigation.
These revelations come as concerns mount about the CCP’s attempts to influence U.S. politics through local channels.
