Biden Blasts Obama Over Russia’s Ukraine Invasion, Woodward Book Claims

President Joe Biden has privately blamed former President Barack Obama for failing to stop Russian aggression in 2014, according to Bob Woodward’s latest book, War. Biden is quoted expressing frustration over Obama’s handling of the annexation of Crimea, saying, “We f***ed it up,” and accusing the administration of not taking Putin’s ambitions seriously.

The book reveals that Biden felt Obama’s reluctance to send military aid to Ukraine in 2014 emboldened Putin, eventually leading to the 2022 invasion. Biden reportedly fumed, “We did nothing. We gave Putin a license to continue!” He vowed to take a tougher stance on Russia during his own presidency.

According to War, U.S. intelligence became aware of Putin’s invasion plans in October 2021 through a senior-level source inside the Kremlin. This intelligence gave the Biden administration a significant advantage in preparing for the conflict.

Biden later confronted Putin in a heated December 2021 video call, where the Russian leader reportedly threatened nuclear war. Following the invasion, U.S. intelligence suggested that Putin might consider using tactical nuclear weapons as his losses in Ukraine mounted.
