Biden Weighs Pardons For Cheney And Fauci Ahead Of Trump Administration

President Joe Biden is considering preemptive pardons for Liz Cheney and Anthony Fauci as he nears the end of his presidency. The move comes amid fears that President-elect Donald Trump may pursue investigations against the two high-profile figures.

In a recent interview, Biden said he warned Trump against taking legal action motivated by political grievances. “I tried to make it clear that there was no need to settle scores,” Biden stated, though Trump reportedly gave no assurances.

Cheney, who served on the January 6 committee, faces allegations of witness tampering. Trump has pointed to these claims as evidence of wrongdoing, calling for further investigation. Fauci, who played a leading role during the pandemic, has also faced criticism from Republicans and may become a focus of Trump’s legal agenda.

Trump’s nominees for top positions signal an aggressive stance. Pam Bondi, tapped for attorney general, and Kash Patel, nominated as FBI director, have promised to hold individuals accountable for what they describe as abuses under Biden’s administration. Patel has vowed to reform the FBI’s structure, calling for sweeping changes to its leadership and operations.

Biden’s consideration of preemptive pardons follows his December pardon of Hunter Biden, who faced federal charges. The move drew backlash from Republicans, who say it contradicts Biden’s earlier pledge not to interfere in legal matters involving his family.

Trump dismissed concerns over the potential pardons, stating, “Biden can give them a pardon if he wants to. And maybe he should.”
