Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and MSNBC Host Joy Reid duked it out on the “Reid Out” Tuesday evening in a fiery debate over multiple hot topics of the day.
Donalds and Reid’s sit-down featured topics such as the 118th Congress’ historic speaker’s race, ‘racism,’ and the Republicans’ recently-announced plan to remove Democrats from coveted committee assignments.
Reid began by discussing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s recent vow to remove Democratic California Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from the House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the Foreign Affairs Committee.
“Do you think that that is a good look for the Republican Party?” Reid asked Donalds, referring to the impending removals.
Donalds responded, saying, “No, I think them going back on committees is what should happen.”
“Look, what we told Democrat leadership when they went down this pathway of removing members from the committee is basically saying, you should not do that because if it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander.”
“Let’s be very clear, Ilhan Omar has said things that are reprehensible,” Donalds continued before Reid cut him off.
“Can you name-” Reid said, before being cut off herself.
“Hold on, hold on, let me finish,” Donalds said.
“She’s [Ilhan Omar] said terrible things about the Jewish community, so much so that resolutions had to go to the House floor about them, and they were watered down.”

The dueling pair then delved into the hot topic of social security when Donalds asked Reid whether she knew that Social Security would become insolvent by 2035.
Donalds’ statement prompted a flurry of erratic rebukes from Reid.
“It is not, that’s not true. It’s actually not true,” Reid said, speaking out of turn as Donalds attempted to finish his thought.
Donalds then laid out his credentials on the subject, saying, “Joy, I’m a finance professional, I do more than just Congress. I worked in the financial community. I am telling you. Social Security will go insolvent.”
“That’s actually not true, that’s not true,” Reid retorted as she spoke over Donalds once again.

In the run-up to November’s midterm elections, Reid and other talking heads on MSNBC frequently alleged that Republicans wanted to end Social Security altogether.
