California Dad Livid After Doc Asks Toddler If He’s A Boy Or Girl

The cultural debate over how and when to address gender dysphoria in children has intensified in recent years as many on the left seem to promote gender transitions in very young kids.

According to a social media video by one California father, his 3-year-old son recently had a troubling encounter with a pediatrician regarding the toddler’s gender identity. Although certain details were not evident from the context of the video, the man explained what he said he overheard at the doctor’s office.

As he recalled: “So my wife and I are waiting in the room with our son, and the doctor comes in, and he sees my son sitting there at the table, and the first question that he asks him is: ‘Are you a boy or are you a girl?’”

He said he and his wife were outraged, but were relieved that their son understands enough about the “obvious tenets of biology” that he was not swayed by the doctor’s leading question.

“The rest of the appointment I couldn’t even focus because I’m wondering why in the world this guy is asking the question,” the man added. “And then I remembered, ‘Oh, yeah, I live in California.’”

The frustrated father went on to suggest that his son’s experience was just another troubling sign of the times.

“Call me paranoid, but this is where I think we’re heading based on other things that have happened,” he said, referencing a number of anecdotes from the past few years involving parents losing custody of their children for opposing hormone therapy and other gender transitioning treatments.

As Emilie Kao of the DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family determined in 2019, the Equality Act proposed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) contained provisions that “could give the transgender community a vice grip over the medical profession” and “open the floodgates for lawsuits against doctors who don’t fall in line with transgender ideology.”

She wrote at the time that the bill would mean that parents could be excluded from discussions between their minor children and doctors when it comes to issues related to gender identity — and might even lose custody entirely if they do not approve of requested gender transitions.

“So again, call me paranoid, but I’m wondering if the doctor’s asking the question of my son to see if he can establish a pattern over time that shows my son wants to be a girl,” the California dad concluded.

He said that he has no intention of letting his toddler “choose what he wants for dinner,” much less which gender he wants to be.
