California is Being Eaten Alive By Its Crime Problems

When officials go easy on criminals, law-abiding civilians are the ones who pay the price.

Nowhere is this more obvious than in US communities that have been under the Democrat Party’s control for an extensive period of time. In places like Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, etc., it’s Gotham City.

The rates of homicide, robbery, and other vicious acts of lawlessness have gone up. Meanwhile, the people who are most often victimized by these crimes are lawful people who are just living their lives, going to work, and doing the best they can.

In California, the state’s crime problems have gotten so out of control that just holding a festival has become impossible, as documented by The Federalist.

No More Festivals in the Golden State

In North California, since 1978, the community has had a Garlic Festival that traditionally takes place every year. During the annual Garden Festival, people in the community can raise funds for local-based non-profits and otherwise enjoy garlic crops.

Unfortunately, this tradition came screeching to a halt this year. California officials shut down the Garlic Festival because of a tragic incident that happened back in 2019.

The incident involved a man sneaking into the festival, attacking and killing random people there, and then taking his own life. Since this tragedy occurred, a lawsuit against Gilroy, California argued that the city failed to have in place the proper levels of security overseeing the event.

Sadly, the US Chamber of Commerce has cited California as one of the worst states to bring forward lawsuits in. Also, California has retained its position as one of the five worst states for lawsuits over the past two decades.

Unfortunately, with soft-on-crime policies and a lack of regard for law enforcement, California is also becoming one of the most dangerous places in America. The shutdown of the Garlic Festival is merely a symptom of the bigger disease.

The Only Way Out

Just as California lost the Garlic Festival, they are also losing residents and businesses. People are packing their bags and literally moving to greener (and safer) pastures.

If the state of California has any interest in turning things around, they have to get serious about crime. Treating crime like the danger that it is, in all likelihood, would have prevented the killings that took place during 2019’s Garlic Festival.

If California continues with its policies of low to no bail for criminals, reducing funds for police departments, and opening up the prisons, they’ll keep reaping the destructive and deadly consequences.
