Christian Massacres Escalate In Syria As Al Qaeda Regime Solidifies Power

Widespread killings of Christians and Alawites have overtaken Syria following the rise of its new Islamist government, with more than 1,800 people executed in the past few days. Villages have been reduced to rubble, and families have been slaughtered as militants conduct a campaign of terror across the country.

The collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December led to the swift rise of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Al Qaeda-linked faction, which installed Ahmed al-Sharaa as Syria’s leader by late January. While claiming to be a moderate government, reports from the ground show targeted attacks on Christian communities, including the execution of priests and the destruction of churches.

Survivors recount armed men storming homes, forcing people into the streets and carrying out public executions. In Latakia, one of the last Christian strongholds, residents have fled to the mountains, fearing for their lives as Islamist fighters continue their advance. Thousands remain missing, and many are presumed dead.

International responses have been weak. The United Nations condemned the violence but failed to acknowledge that Christians were being specifically targeted. Meanwhile, major news outlets have largely ignored the religious aspect of these massacres, focusing on political changes in Syria rather than the atrocities being committed.

Despite its military strength, Israel has remained on the sidelines. While Israeli officials have spoken about the dangers of jihadist rule, there have been no efforts to intervene or protect Syria’s Christians. Calls for military support and humanitarian aid have gone unanswered.

With Christian leaders issuing desperate pleas for help, the crisis continues to worsen. The number of dead is climbing, and there is little hope of relief as Islamist forces tighten their control.
