Conservatives Go Off On Twitter Over FBI Raid of Trump’s Mar-A-Lago

After the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago, conservatives came out swinging against the Biden administration’s politicization of the bureau — with some arguing that the administration has turned the United States into a “Banana Republic.”

The FBI’s investigation is supposedly centered around classified material that the former president brought with him to his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida from the White House. According to reporting from The New York Times, Trump delayed returning over a dozen boxes of material to the National Archives, including documents that were “marked as classified national security information.”

A grand jury investigation was opened by federal prosecutors in May over whether classified material that ended up at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home was mishandled. According to The Daily Wire, “The main purpose of these types of investigations is usually for federal authorities to determine if any classified material was compromised so that intelligence officials can take steps to protect sensitive sources and methods.”

Regardless of the bureau’s reasoning for the raid, the shocking news of federal agents swarming the private home of a former president has left many conservatives, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), stunned and outraged.

“The raid of [Mar-a-Lago] is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves,” the Florida governor wrote in a post on Twitter. “Now the Regime is getting another 87k IRS agents to wield against its adversaries? Banana Republic.”

Fox News contributor and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino went off on the politicization of the FBI while appearing on “Watters’ World” with Jesse Watters on Fox News.

“Yeah, I mean, you think this is some third-world bull—- right here. Let me say it again. Third-world bull—-. I mean every word of that,” he said. “I don’t care that it’s cable news. I was a federal agent. I raised my right hand and I swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and I love this country.”

“This is a freakin’ disgrace, a disgrace. We don’t live in Cuba. We don’t live under Kim Jong Un. We live in a constitutional republic, a representative democracy,” Bongino continued. “Hillary Clinton paid off a bunch of foreign agents, her team, literally to fabricate a story that occupied the nation for four years. What’s she doing right now? Getting a manicure in freakin Chappaqua. She’s not doing squat. Nothing.”

“You cannot tell me we still live in a constitutional republic and not the freakin’ third world when you have Hillary Clinton paying foreign agents to interfere with an election, people lying under oath repeatedly, Hunter Biden doing crack on tape,” he added. “And what happens? Where are the federal agents? They’re not in Malibu. They’re not in Chappaqua. They’re in Mar a Lago.”

Bongino concluded his fiery rant by putting forth “the solution” to this monumental problem of a politicized FBI: voters need to show up in the November midterm elections and cast their ballots for Republicans, even if they don’t like the Republican on the ticket. According to the former Secret Service agent, even if that particular Republican isn’t the solution to the problem, the Democrats are the source of the American people’s problems right now.

Outkick founder Clay Travis said that the move made the Biden admin look “wildly desperate,” and argued that the FBI’s actions will only make Trump stronger.

“This FBI raid on Donald Trump’s residence makes him far stronger. It confirms every allegation he’s made about the political nature of the DOJ & it looks wildly desperate. A failing president who knows he’s on track to be crushed desperately trying to take out his top rival,” he tweeted.

“So the president with the lowest approval ratings in our lives just had his department of justice’s FBI raid the private home of the leading candidate to replace him in the next election? This is banana republic third-world level crazy. And scary,” Travis added in a separate tweet.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) also spoke out on Twitter, writing: “The FBI raid on President Trump’s home is an unprecedented political weaponization of the Justice Department. They’ve been after President Trump as a candidate, as President, and now as a former President. Using the criminal justice system in this manner is un-American.”
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, argued that the raid was “part of the worst political scandal in American history.”

“The unprecedented, reckless and wildly abusive FBI raid on Trump’s home shows the Biden administration is hurtling towards despotism. This raid is part of the worst political scandal in American history — the Obama-Biden Deep State abuse of President Trump. Pray for America!” he wrote.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) pointed out that former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, stole items from the White House when they left office, and noted that former President Barack Obama also broke the law, yet the FBI took no action against them.

“Bill and Hillary Clinton took $28,000 worth of furnishings from the White House. Obama violated the Presidential Records Act. Why did the FBI not raid their houses? This is a political witch hunt to take down President Trump,” she said.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called for the GOP to create a select committee to investigate the FBI’s actions.

“The GOP must set up a Select Committee to investigate the FBI’s politically-motivated raid on Mar-a-Lago and on ALL the fraudulent persecution of President Trump from our government. This cannot wait. We are turning into a banana republic at record speed,” she tweeted.

Trump supporters have gathered together outside of Mar-a-Lago in a show of support for the former president.
