Crenshaw Loses Key Chairmanship After Calling McCarthy’s Opposition ‘Terrorists’

Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw lost a race to chair the House Homeland Security Committee after he called GOP lawmakers who repeatedly refused to vote Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for the position of House Speaker “terrorists.”

Crenshaw had strong criticisms for congressmen who held out from electing now-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, describing them last week as “grifters” and “performance artists” as McCarthy attempted to win their votes. The Texas congressman’s disdain for those defectors was on blatant display last Wednesday when he referred to them as “terrorists” during an interview with Fox News host Guy Benson.

Crenshaw ridiculed people who were offended by his remarks while also attempting to clarify them later on.

“Obviously, to people who took offense by that, it’s pretty obvious that it’s meant as a turn of phrase,” the representative said on “State of the Union” with host Jake Tapper. “To the extent that I have colleagues that were offended by it, I sincerely apologize to them. I don’t want them to think I actually believe they’re terrorists. It’s clearly a turn of phrase that you use in what is an intransigent negotiation.”

Crenshaw had a different tone when he reacted to Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s criticisms of his incendiary rhetoric.

“Unclutch your pearls,” he wrote in response online. “It’s a figure of speech. You can’t insult, slander, and hold everyone, hostage, with no way out – and not expect me to punch back.”

“Grow thicker skin.”

The key House Committee position will ultimately be assumed by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN).

As Just The News pointed out, Crenshaw has drawn heat before for numerous matters, including his backing of so-called ‘red flag laws’ and a bill pouring money into state immunization information programs, which some conservatives have described as “vaccine databases.”

After beating Crenshaw in the race for House Steering Committee chair, Green issued a statement to Fox News emphasizing the ongoing crisis of illegal immigration at the southern border.

“For the sake of our national security and homeland security, we must secure our border. We have no choice. We will empower our brave CBP agents to do their jobs and hold President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the crisis that they created,” stated Green.

An estimated 4 million illegal aliens have come into the United States since Joe Biden assumed office, with a record 2.4 million entries recorded in the fiscal year 2022 alone.
