A significant group of Democrat megadonors has suspended $90 million in donations to Future Forward, the largest pro-Biden super PAC, amid growing concerns over President Joe Biden’s ability to lead the 2024 campaign. The decision came after Biden’s recent press conference, where he frequently appeared confused and made several notable gaffes, including mistakenly referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.”
This development has intensified calls within the Democratic Party for Biden to step aside. Following the press conference, three additional House Democrats joined the growing list of those urging Biden to withdraw, bringing the total to 18. Representative Jim Himes (D-CT) articulated the party’s anxiety by highlighting recent polling data suggesting that Biden’s continued candidacy could not only result in a loss to former President Donald Trump but also jeopardize the Democratic majority in both the Senate and the House.
Behind the scenes, influential figures such as former President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have reportedly expressed doubts about Biden’s viability as a candidate. While Obama has taken a passive stance, some speculate he might be subtly encouraging efforts to persuade Biden to exit the race. This theory gained traction after actor George Clooney, who is close to Obama, published an op-ed calling for Biden to step down.
The suspension of these substantial donations underscores the deepening crisis within the Democratic Party.
