DOGE Shakeup At Social Security: Millions Listed As Over 100, Chief Steps Down

Elon Musk’s team at the Department of Government Efficiency has uncovered glaring issues in Social Security’s records, with millions of people listed as over 100 years old and some reportedly as old as 150. The revelations have triggered a major shakeup, with Acting Commissioner Michelle King resigning amid growing tensions over access to agency data.

Musk, speaking alongside President Donald Trump, [described] the discovery as “crazy,” pointing out that no living person has reached 150 years old. “They should be in the Guinness Book of World Records,” he joked. “Or they’re probably dead.”

The Social Security Administration has [admitted] that its records contain outdated and inaccurate data, with an estimated 19 million people listed as over 100 years old but no record of their death. While most are not receiving payments, DOGE is [investigating] whether fraudulent claims have been made using these inactive Social Security numbers.

King’s departure follows her reported refusal to grant DOGE full access to Social Security’s recipient records. The White House has since nominated financial executive Frank Bisignano to lead the agency, with a temporary appointment of Leland Dudek as acting commissioner.

Concerns over improper Social Security payments are part of a broader examination by DOGE into federal financial mismanagement. The agency is also reviewing questionable payments in the Treasury Department, where nearly $5 trillion in transactions were flagged as lacking proper traceability.

Musk emphasized that his team’s efforts are about common sense. “Let’s look at each of the expenditures and say, is this actually in the best interest of the people?” he said. “If it is, it’s approved. If it’s not, we should think about it.”
