Elon Musk has reignited debate over U.S. foreign policy by reposting a 2014 video of Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) acknowledging Washington’s role in removing Ukraine’s former president, Viktor Yanukovych. The clip, originally shared by X user KanekoaTheGreat, provides further evidence that U.S. actions helped destabilize Ukraine, a crisis that has since escalated into full-scale war.
Murphy admitted that U.S.-imposed sanctions and threats played a role in forcing Yanukovych out of power. He detailed how lawmakers and officials were directly engaged in Ukraine’s transition, making clear that the U.S. was a key driver of political change rather than a neutral party.

Economic interests were also at play. Murphy pointed out that closer ties between Ukraine and the European Union could create major financial benefits for the U.S. through trade agreements, exposing the fact that Washington had more than just democratic ideals in mind when backing Ukraine’s opposition.
Musk’s post comes as President Donald Trump continues to push for an end to the war, standing in direct opposition to the Biden administration’s policy of continued military involvement. Trump has repeatedly argued that peace must be prioritized over further escalation, an approach that has made him a target for deep-state figures who were responsible for fueling tensions in the first place.

Murphy also touched on the controversial presence of extremist factions within Ukraine’s opposition, acknowledging that far-right and nationalist groups were part of the movement. While he attempted to minimize their significance, his comments confirm that radical elements were involved in the U.S.-backed push for regime change.
By resurfacing this video, Musk has placed new scrutiny on how Washington’s past actions have fueled today’s global instability. As Trump works to restore peace, the debate over U.S. intervention in Ukraine continues to grow.
Big difference if it’s not you or your child being conscripted to die in trenches https://t.co/i4eVMD3Ui5
