End the Filibuster … Again?

The calm has left and the storm is here. The Supreme Court opinion draft that signals justices are ready to overturn Roe v. Wade is out, and the left is losing their minds.

Funny enough, the filibuster is coming back into the equation because Democrats are getting more desperate to get what they want. The Democrat Party had a vision of controlling the executive and legislative branches of government, where everything got passed and they experienced no pushback. But that vision has proven out of reach.

The leak is unprecedented and devalues the draft opinions of the Supreme Court moving forward. It’s a leaked document that was never meant to be publicly made available because there hasn’t been a ruling yet. This is an attempt to intimidate the justices who hold the opinion that Roe v. Wade should be overturned.

Governors and other politicians are speaking out in favor of getting rid of the filibuster. Mandela Barnes (D), Lt. Governor of Wisconsin and current candidate for U.S. Senate, said, “It has never been more clear why we need to abolish the filibuster and take immediate action to protect every person’s right to make decisions about their own bodies. Republicans have proven they will stop at nothing to strip every individual of their right to an abortion. We must act now.”

First of all, Congress just struck down an attempt to get rid of the filibuster so there’s no possibility that it’s going to end right now. The next issue here is that Republicans aren’t taking away anyone’s rights at all.

Barnes said that there needs to be “action to protect every person’s right to make decisions about their own bodies.” But in 2021, Barnes spoke about COVID-19 vaccine mandates saying, “we are getting to the point where we do need to require vaccines.” Those two statements directly conflict with each other.

Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman said, “Let’s be clear; the right to an abortion is sacred. Democrats have to act quickly and get rid of the filibuster to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and finally codify Roe into law. We cannot afford to wait.”

The Democrats were in favor of the filibuster throughout their time as the minority. But now they aim to ram through legislation, and they need to get rid of the filibuster to do so. Rest assured, they’re doing this because they don’t intend on being in the minority ever again.
