FBI Tracks Suspected Cell After New Orleans Terror Attack

Authorities are actively pursuing members of a suspected terror cell linked to the deadly New Year’s attack in New Orleans. The incident, carried out by 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, left 10 dead and 30 injured in the French Quarter during a vehicle and shooting rampage.

Jabbar, who carried an ISIS flag, had multiple bombs and firearms in his vehicle. The explosives, hidden in coolers, were wired for remote detonation, and a detonator was recovered at the scene. Surveillance footage also captured three men and one woman placing additional bombs around the area.

The FBI has confirmed that Jabbar did not act alone and is working to identify his associates. FBI Assistant Special Agent Alethea Duncan emphasized the importance of public assistance in uncovering further details about the network.

Gov. Jeff Landry said law enforcement is “hunting some bad people down,” while Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) affirmed the FBI’s commitment to apprehending additional suspects. Investigators are exploring Jabbar’s connections to determine the extent of the cell’s operations.

Federal agents searched the home of Jabbar’s ex-wife, whose current husband described Jabbar’s erratic behavior during his conversion to Islam. Officials believe the attacker’s recent radicalization may have played a role in the plot.

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team has reportedly been deployed to New Orleans. Flight tracker data suggests their arrival coincides with the ongoing manhunt for the suspects.
