Foreign Climate Activists Target Trump With Election Interference Scheme

A United Kingdom-based environmental group is openly attempting to influence the 2024 U.S. presidential election, specifically targeting former President Donald Trump. The Centre for Climate Reporting, founded by environmentalists Lawrence Carter and Tom Costello, recently released an undercover video that attacks Project 2025, a presidential transition initiative backed by Trump allies and housed at the Heritage Foundation.

The video, which features former Trump official Russ Vought, uses dramatic music and selective editing to create a misleading portrayal of Project 2025. Vought’s comments in the video focus on policy areas such as illegal immigration and Planned Parenthood—topics that have long been part of the Republican platform. The video’s content largely rehashes publicly available statements, raising questions about the motivations behind its production.

The Centre for Climate Reporting’s involvement in the U.S. election has sparked concerns about foreign interference. The organization employs British and Canadian nationals who are not allowed to participate in U.S. elections as voters, yet they are actively producing content aimed at influencing American political discourse. Critics argue that this constitutes the kind of election interference that Democrats have condemned in the past.

The high production quality and extensive media promotion of the video suggest that it is also intended to attract donations from American progressive groups. As foreign entities increasingly involve themselves in U.S. elections, the ethical implications of such actions continue to be a major point of debate.
