A man who entered the United States illegally has been apprehended for the rape of a 13-year-old girl in a secluded area of a Queens park.
The arrest of Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, 25, an Ecuadorian migrant, was made possible thanks to a barrage of tips from local residents, some of whom aided in subduing the suspect before police arrived.
“We had tips coming in actually naming the perpetrator, so they knew who he was,” Joseph Kenny, the NYPD’s chief of detectives, said during a news conference. Kenny noted that Inga-Landi now faces multiple charges, including rape, kidnapping, possession of a weapon, and sexual abuse.
The capture of the illegal immigrant followed the release of images, footage, and a sketch by the NYPD depicting the suspect and his distinctive tattoo. Local residents responded by providing Inga-Landi’s name, his Facebook account, and pictures matching the tattoo and clothing worn during the assault.
According to reports, Inga-Landi had no prior arrests in New York City but had been previously detained for illegally entering the United States through Eagle Pass, Texas, in June 2021. After his release, he reportedly traveled to Queens, where authorities issued him summonses and encountered him in a domestic violence situation before he managed to evade arrest.
The incident that sparked the manhunt occurred when Inga-Landi allegedly held a 13-year-old girl and boy at knifepoint with a “machete-style” blade in broad daylight at Kissena Park. He is accused of tying their wrists with shoelaces, sexually assaulting the girl, and stealing their cell phones before fleeing.
