Loretta Lynch Joins Legal Fight As Chinese Drone Maker Sues Pentagon

DJI, a Chinese drone company, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense over its designation as a “military company.” The lawsuit, filed in Washington, D.C., challenges the Pentagon’s classification, which the company argues is damaging its reputation and business. DJI maintains that its drones are used for consumer and commercial purposes and have no ties to China’s military.

The legal team representing DJI includes former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Her involvement has sparked backlash from Republican lawmakers, who have expressed concerns over her work with the company. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was particularly vocal, criticizing Lynch for advocating for a company with alleged links to the Chinese government. Stefanik emphasized that U.S. officials, both current and former, should be focused on national security and protecting the country from potential risks posed by foreign technology.

According to DJI, the Department of Defense has refused to explain its decision to include the company on the list of military companies, forcing the drone maker to seek legal action. The company insists it has no military connections and is simply a commercial entity.

The lawsuit comes at a time when Congress is considering further restrictions on DJI. The House of Representatives recently passed a bill that would ban future imports of DJI drones, citing concerns about national security. The bill is awaiting action in the Senate.
