Missouri Considers Reward Program For Reporting Illegal Immigrants

Missouri could soon implement a system offering residents $1,000 for reporting illegal immigrants. Senate Bill 72, introduced by state Sen.-elect David Gregory (R), outlines plans for an online portal where citizens can submit reports to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The legislation also proposes the “Missouri Illegal Alien Certified Bounty Hunter Program,” allowing licensed bail bond agents to become bounty hunters with the authority to detain illegal immigrants within the state.

Those found guilty of “trespass by an illegal alien” under the bill would face severe consequences. The proposed penalties include disqualification from public benefits, losing the ability to vote or obtain driver’s licenses, and permanent ineligibility for legal residency in Missouri.

This bill is part of a larger push by Missouri Republicans to tackle illegal immigration. Other measures introduced this session would penalize sanctuary cities $25,000 per day, require employers to verify worker documentation, and establish penalties for immigration violations.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) has already taken action on immigration enforcement. Earlier this year, he allocated $2.2 million to support “Operation Lonestar,” sending state law enforcement and National Guard troops to Texas to help secure the border.

Critics warn that the proposals could lead to racial profiling and legal complications. Supporters, however, argue the measures are necessary to address the impact of illegal immigration and fill the void left by federal inaction. If enacted, the bill would make Missouri one of the most aggressive states in addressing illegal immigration.
