Musk’s Pro-H-1B Stance Fuels MAGA Divisions Over Worker Wages

Elon Musk’s support for expanding the H-1B visa program has sparked backlash from MAGA figures, with critics warning it could devastate U.S. workers. Steve Bannon has accused Musk of pushing policies that harm American jobs by enabling companies like Tesla to rely on cheaper foreign labor.

Musk has credited the program with bringing top talent to the U.S., citing its role in building companies like SpaceX. However, critics allege Musk has a financial incentive to support the program, as loosening visa restrictions could allow companies to hire less expensive foreign workers who accept lower pay and fewer benefits.

Steve Bannon, speaking on his War Room podcast, called the program a “total and complete scam” and accused Musk of being in bed with globalist interests. “You are a war profiteer; you’re sleeping with the enemy, brother,” Bannon said. He also highlighted Musk’s business ties in China, claiming, “The Shanghai joint venture is 100% controlled by the CCP.”

The controversy has exposed fractures within Trump’s base. While President Donald Trump has praised the visa program for helping U.S. businesses, Laura Loomer and other MAGA supporters argue it creates a “race to the bottom” for wages, hurting the middle class.

Critics also claim Musk’s extensive operations in China demonstrate his preference for globalist policies over American interests. Bannon called Musk a “phony” and said, “He is owned lock, stock and barrel by the Chinese Communist Party.”

The debate underscores the tension between pro-business policies and nationalist priorities within the Republican Party.
