Nearly 90% Of Americans Blame Government For Border Crisis

Nearly 90% of American voters blame the federal government for the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

According to a Trafalgar Group for Convention of States Action poll, about 91% of Republicans say the Biden administration is at fault for the surge of illegal immigrants at the border. In comparison, nearly 83% of Democrats and 85% of independents agree that the government bears responsibility.

President of Convention of States Action, Mark Meckler, said he has never seen a poll where Republicans and Democrats differ by a few points.

“I’ve never seen a poll like this — 87% of the American public blames the federal government for the problem at the border,” Meckler said on the John Solomon Reports podcast.

“What was most interesting is you dig into … the crosstabs — all the Democrats, breakdowns by age, party, race — what you saw was no difference within a few points across the board. “So it’s almost 90% of people blame the federal government. And they expect that the states are going to have to fix it. They don’t believe that the federal government will fix the problem,” he added.

Over 50% of respondents said they have little to no confidence that the Biden administration is willing to or able to fix the ongoing border crisis.

The poll comes after Chicago announced it is facing a humanitarian crisis as illegal immigrants overflow the city.

Chicago city officials said they would soon spend $53 million from the city’s budget surplus to take care of over 80,000 illegal migrants that are on their way to Chicago.

Chicago is preparing for a higher surge of illegal immigrants to arrive once Title 42 ends on May 11, 2023. Officials said it would cost the city nearly $125 million to care for the migrants, leaving Chicago financial officials no choice but to ask the City Council to set aside an additional $53 million from the city’s surplus to cover the costs.

Title 42 is a law enforced by the Border Patrol providing the federal government with the power to prohibit people from entering the U.S. to keep diseases out of the country. Former President Donald Trump signed the law at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing the U.S. to deport illegal migrants.
