Police In Chicago Suburbs Reportedly Being ‘Asked To Help In The City’ If Mayor Lightfoot’s Vaccine Mandate Threat Backfires

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is playing with fire when it comes to the Covid-19 vaccine mandate. Covid-19 has claimed more children’s lives in Chicago than it has in the rest of the United States combined. It’s a slippery slope when you go against the wishes of police officers.

The Covid-19 vaccine mandate doesn’t make sense. The death rate of Covid-19 is 1.6% across all demographics, and the younger you get, the less deadly the virus becomes. When it comes to being a police officer, that skill travels with the officer. Many agencies throughout the country pay for people to take the recertification course in other states. It wouldn’t be difficult for a Chicago police officer to take the training and experience and transfer it to another department.

Lightfoot said that she believes that the Fraternal Order of Police, who put out a video suggesting that officers refuse to comply with Lightfoot’s mandate to reveal their Covid-19 vaccine status, is engaging in an illegal work stoppage or strike. The problem with Lightfoot’s message is that she’s suggesting that the Fraternal Order of Police is getting officers to leave work when she’s the one that will force them to stay out of work after refusing to comply. It’s Lightfoot that would be engaging in the work stoppage.

She also says that the unions aren’t allowed by law to strike. If other businesses are any consolation, Lightfoot may not have an option if enough officers fail to comply or call out of work at the same time. It will be up to the officers to determine what is best for them and their families. Also, note that the Covid-19 vaccines are still under emergency use authorization.

It’s expected that many officers will not comply with the mandate because, according to WGN, there have already been requests sent out to agencies in Illinois to assist with emergency calls in Chicago. The request specified that there wouldn’t be a normal response to ordinary police calls for service but urgent calls. The request also asked for the projected response time to the calls to assess the city’s capabilities to keep citizens safe in times of crisis.

The fact is, Chicago is already a dangerous place, and taking more officers out of the equation isn’t going to fare well for the citizens of the city. Police departments have been demonizing officers for years, well before the 2020 Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots. It has hurt every police force across the country, and adding a leftist mandate into the Chicago police department isn’t going to make the situation any better.

Lightfoot needs to know her place in the city and realize that she isn’t making anything better. The city needs a strong leader rather than a leader dressed up as cleaning supplies to add to the Covid-19 pandemic arsenal of absurd leftist suggestions.
