Putin Claims Ukraine War Could Have Been Prevented If Trump Stayed In Office

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that the war in Ukraine might not have happened if President Donald Trump had remained in power following the 2020 election. Speaking in an interview with Russian media, Putin argued that Trump’s leadership could have steered events in a different direction.

According to Putin, the situation that led to the 2022 invasion could have been avoided if Trump’s “stolen” election win had been recognized. Putin described Trump as “pragmatic” and “smart,” expressing confidence that Trump’s decisions would not have harmed the American economy.

Despite Putin’s remarks about being open to discussions, Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement criticizing Western nations for their continued military support of Ukraine. Moscow accused the West of refusing to pursue diplomatic solutions while backing what it calls an “illegitimate” Ukrainian government.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could have quickly ended the conflict had he been in office. He recently issued a warning on Truth Social, stating that if no agreement is reached soon, the US would impose heavy tariffs and sanctions on Russian goods.

Ukrainian officials responded by insisting that any potential peace talks must involve European allies, stating that a resolution cannot be reached through discussions between Trump and Putin alone. Kyiv’s leadership has expressed concerns over the direction of negotiations under the new US administration.

Reports have emerged that earlier efforts to negotiate a peace agreement in 2022 were allegedly blocked by Western leaders. Russian officials claim that Ukraine had initially considered diplomatic talks but was pressured to abandon the idea by Western powers.
