Rand Paul Staffer Stabbed, Severely Wounded In Attack

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has released a statement revealing that one of his staff members had been stabbed on the streets of Washington, D.C. over the weekend.

“This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C. I ask you to join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions,” the statement read. “We are relieved to hear the suspect has been arrested. At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery.”

The incident occurred on the 1300 block of H St NE at 5:17 p.m. on Saturday. Police have arrested 42-year-old Glynn Neal for the horrific attack, and he has been charged with “Assault with Intent to Kill (Knife).”

The victim of the attack has not been identified. According to court documents, he told a detective at the hospital that he did not know the suspect, and stated that the suspect had not made any demands prior to the attack.

A witness who spoke with police revealed that they had been walking eastbound in the 1300 block of H St NE with the victim at the time of the attack. The witness stated that the suspect had been hiding in a corner, and “popped out of the corner and proceeded to stab [the victim] multiple times,” according to a press release from the police.

Police have revealed that the witness tackled the suspect to the ground, and then the victim and witness ran away from the scene and got someone else to call the police. The police report states that this person saw the victim lying “on the ground bleeding from the head,” and helped attend to his wounds while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

The victim was transported to a hospital in the area to receive treatment for “life-threatening injuries,” according to police.

Authorities arrested the suspect, Glynn Neal of Southeast D.C., after tracking him down using a cellphone recovered at the scene.

Fox 5 DC has reported that Federal Bureau of Prisons records show that the suspect had just been released from prison on Friday. He had been serving a 12-year sentence.

Paul himself has also been the victim of violence, as he was seriously injured during an attack by his neighbor in 2017. Six of his ribs were broken in the attack, and his lung was also damaged. Part of his damaged lung was later removed in 2019. Paul has reported experiencing chronic pain resulting from the incident.

Democrats have mocked Paul in response to his attack, and some have even celebrated it.
