Report: Illegal Migrants Cost US $166 Billion In Crime

A recent analysis has revealed that illegal migrants on the Non-Detained Docket (NDD) have a homicide rate 13 times higher than the national average, contributing to a taxpayer burden exceeding $166 billion. The report, authored by Dr. John R. Lott, is based on data from the U.S. Department of Justice.

ICE disclosed that 662,566 illegal migrants with criminal histories are currently on the NDD, which permits them to remain free while awaiting legal proceedings. Of these, 435,719 have prior convictions, and 226,847 face pending charges.

The 2023 data shows that crimes committed by this group include 14,944 homicides, 20,061 sexual assaults, and over 100,000 assaults. Property crimes, including burglary and robbery, reached 60,268 incidents, while traffic offenses totaled 126,343.

The financial impact of these crimes is staggering, with Lott estimating the cost of homicides alone at $153.8 billion. He stressed that this figure underestimates the true burden, as it assumes each migrant commits only one crime and excludes half of the criminal migrants on the NDD.

Lott’s findings have drawn attention to the significant societal and economic impact of policies that allow illegal migrants with criminal histories to remain in the U.S.
