Tim Robbins, star of “The Shawshank Redemption,” blasted Democrats and the establishment media — calling them out on Twitter for supporting “thuggish censorship.”
In a tweet that received nearly three million views in 24 hours, Robbins tore into Democrats who threatened “Twitter Files” journalist Matt Taibbi with prison time following his congressional testimony. The actor spoke out in support of Taibbi and his fellow “Twitter Files” journalists, Michael Shellenberger and Bari Weiss, referring to their reporting on the collusion between the government and social media companies as potentially “the most important story” about “personal freedoms in the US.”
“Recently, independent journalists @mtaibbi @shellenberger @bariweiss have been exposing a massive censorship operation by the US government to control content on social media and eliminate any dissenting voices,” he tweeted. “Have you read their reporting? Or are you listening to the embarrassed, compromised hacks from the media that are covering their tracks? Could be the most important story related to our personal freedoms in the US and it’s being buried.”
Robbins went on to call out the mainstream media for helping to bury the story and smear the journalists reporting on it.
“Mainstream media have not only ignored the story but now attack the journalists, effectively serving as a thuggish censorship arm of the government,” he wrote.
Robbins, a longtime Democrat and supporter of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), specifically called out three Democrats — House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and U.S. Virgin Islands delegate Stacey Plaskett. The radical leftist delegate recently made headlines after she threatened to jail Taibbi for a typo in one piece of his reporting.
“Meanwhile @StaceyPlaskett @RepJeffries @RepJerryNadler threaten journalist Matt Taibbi with jail time. What an embarrassing, shameful time for the Democrats and the ‘free’ press. You are losing any shred of credibility you had, you f—ing fools,” Robbins wrote.
He concluded his tweet with one final thought: “Oh, and by the way #FreeAssange,” referencing jailed WikiLeaks journalist Julian Assange, who is currently on trial for daring to expose the U.S. government.

Robbins also blasted politicians in a recent interview with Variety.
“I’ve always been curious about what goes on in leaders’ heads when they have to do something that is morally compromising for what they consider the greater good. I always look at that as a terrible no-win situation. And I often wonder if those measures that they take, that are immoral, are necessary,” he told the outlet.
“I’m talking about politicians that compromise themselves and make decisions that they believe are for the good of people, but those decisions involve censorship or lying or deception of some kind that leads to people getting hurt,” Robbins added. “And I wanted to play that guy, I want to deal with that moral complexity in trying to understand where the human being is. I think we’ve been through three and a half years of extraordinary and questionable choices made by people that are supposed to be leading their countries.”
This is not the first time that Robbins has spoken out against his own party, as he previously criticized the tyrannical pandemic response from numerous government officials — and argued that Americans became “tribal, angry, vengeful people” because of the pandemic.
