A suspect has been arrested in the brutal murder of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five from Bel Air, Maryland. Morin was found dead on August 6, 2023, after going for a run on a local trail. Authorities identified Victor Martinez Hernandez, 23, as the suspect through DNA evidence linked to a previous crime in California.
Hernandez, who entered the U.S. illegally in March 2023, was apprehended in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He fled El Salvador after allegedly committing a murder there in January 2023. Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler announced the arrest, expressing his frustration with the current administration’s immigration policies.
Gahler shared the devastating impact on Morin’s family, saying, “Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with our federal partners, located and arrested Rachel’s murderer: Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez.” He emphasized that Hernandez had committed additional violent crimes in the U.S., including a home invasion in Los Angeles.
Hernandez’s arrest has intensified debates over border security. Gahler criticized President Joe Biden’s administration, stating, “American citizens are not safe because of their failed immigration policies.” He highlighted the dangers posed by criminals entering the country unchecked.
This incident is the second in two years where a woman in Harford County was killed by someone who had entered the U.S. illegally. Gahler emphasized that such tragedies should not occur, pointing out the failures in the immigration system.
The sheriff’s comments underline the broader issue of illegal immigration and its impact on community safety. He called for stricter measures to prevent criminals from exploiting the system, stressing that the current situation puts American lives at risk. Gahler’s strong words reflect the growing concern among citizens about the effectiveness of the country’s border security and immigration policies.
