Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA.) said it’s looking like President Biden’s Department of Justice is moving towards indicting former President Donald Trump. Swalwell said this while discussing a report that the DOJ asked a federal judge to hold Trump’s office in contempt of court for failing to comply with a subpoena ordering him to turn over classified documents.
Swalwell, while speaking on MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” said the DOJ would not have made the request if they were not serious about indicting Trump.

“Whatever you are, your viewers may think about previous investigations into Donald Trump, and the frustration that has come with those, this team is not screwing around,” Swalwell said. “I think that that reflects the gravity of what it’s at risk here with more documents being potentially in the hands of Donald Trump or his team. They need those documents, and it also looks like they are moving towards an indictment of Donald Trump,” he added.
Swalwell, who described Trump as a “legal terrorist,” stated further that the investigation is approaching a legal crescendo for the former president.
The DOJ is currently investigating Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents. According to Fox News, the major area of disagreement between the Justice Department and Trump’s legal team revolves around the refusal of President Trump’s attorney to appoint a custodian of records to state that all records have been returned to the government.
It is unclear if U.S. District Court Judge Beryl A. Howell will grant the DOJ its wish. However, individuals familiar with the court proceedings told The Washington Post that no action has been taken on the request.
FBI agents raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after the former president allegedly took classified documents from the White House to Mar-a-Lago at the end of his tenure.
Following the raid, Trump went on his Truth social media platform and slammed the unannounced raid as “not necessary or appropriate.”
“Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
