Former President Donald Trump still has enormous sway in the public sphere of politics and is still a “huge” figure in the news media. Trump called into Fox News and spoke on the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict.
Trump said, “I think that it was a great decision. I was surprised it had to go this far. Somebody should have ended it earlier. Frankly, the case should have never been brought. In my opinion, it was prosecutorial misconduct and there is plenty of it going on in this country right now. It was disgraceful.”
Trump noted that if Rittenhouse had waited half of a second, he would have been dead, and there wouldn’t have been a trial.
The judge didn’t call a mistrial after yelling at the prosecution because he knew the backlash that would have followed. If Rittenhouse had gotten a mistrial, then the left would have claimed that Rittenhouse was guilty and that he shouldn’t be walking the streets, and it could have gotten awful for Rittenhouse.
True self-defense was at stake during the trial, and citizens of the United States should have been paying very close attention to the trial. If law enforcement won’t, or can’t, step in to protect the streets, then citizens have a right to defend their city and town. The second amendment was drafted for a reason other than hunting.
Trump also released a statement saying, “It’s called being found NOT GUILTY. And by the way, if that’s not self-defense, nothing is!”
Even though the jury was being followed by reporters and Black Lives Matter activists were threatening to punish the jury if they found Rittenhouse not guilty, the jury made the right decision in the case.
Cortez Rice, George Floyd’s nephew, said, “I ain’t even going to name the people that I know that’s up in the Kenosha trial. But it’s cameras in there. It’s cameras up there. There are people taking pictures of the jurors and everything like that. We know what’s going on.”
It’s not clear if an investigation into Cortez Rice has been started, but there should be.
