President Donald Trump continues to lead in crucial battleground states, maintaining his edge even as Vice President Kamala Harris emerges as the Democratic nominee. The Emerson College Polling-Hill newspaper survey reveals Trump remains ahead in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, with a tie in Wisconsin.
In Arizona, Trump holds 49% support against Harris’ 44%. Georgia sees Trump leading with 48% to Harris’ 46%. In Michigan, Trump has 46% while Harris trails with 45%. Pennsylvania has Trump at 48% and Harris at 46%, and in Wisconsin, both are tied at 47%.
Despite concerns from Trump’s team that Harris’ nomination might shift the balance, the poll indicates stable support for Trump. Harris, endorsed by President Joe Biden after his withdrawal from the race, has seen increased backing among younger voters. However, this hasn’t significantly impacted Trump’s lead.
Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, commented, “Harris has recovered a portion of the vote for the Democrats on the presidential ticket since the fallout after the June 27 debate. Her support now mirrors Biden’s levels from March.”
Young voters have notably shifted towards Harris: her support has risen by 16 points in Arizona, 8 in Georgia, 5 in Michigan, 11 in Pennsylvania, and 1 in Wisconsin compared to Biden’s numbers. However, Harris still faces challenges with her favorability ratings, which remain lower than Trump’s.
As the campaign advances, both candidates will need to solidify their positions and sway undecided voters in these key states. The polling data suggests that while Harris has gained some ground, Trump’s established lead keeps the race competitive.
