A GoFundMe authorized by President Donald Trump has raised more than $265,000 to support the victims and their families after a failed assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in one death and two critical injuries.
Donald Trump Jr. shared the fundraiser link, showing an image of his father standing onstage with a bloodied face. The fundraiser page states, “President Donald Trump has authorized this account as a place for donations to the supporters and families wounded or killed in today’s brutal and horrific assassination attempt.”
Trump’s lawyer and senior advisor, Alina Habba, also promoted the fundraiser, emphasizing its legitimacy and urging people to help the victims. The former president, who was injured during the incident, expressed his condolences and gratitude through a post on Truth Social. He detailed being shot in the ear and assured his supporters of his resilience, stating, “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The FBI identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Despite the tragic event, Trump plans to attend the upcoming Republican convention in Wisconsin. The site of the convention is notably close to where President Teddy Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt in 1912, drawing parallels to Trump’s defiance in the face of danger.
