Truth Czar: Mocking VP a Threat to National Security

Nina Jankowicz, President Joe Biden’s director of the new Disinformation Governance Board, argues that online mockery of Vice President Kamala Harris is a national security issue.

Wednesday’s announcement of the new board within the Department of Homeland Security triggered a backlash against what many believe to be a vast overreach of federal authority. Jankowicz, chosen to head the board, is on record with very specific ideas concerning online content.

In a WIRED article, she pointed at the vast amount of “gender disinformation” online and the need for congressional action. Her solution is to legislate against “online gender-based harassment,” and she used examples of mockery aimed at the vice president and progressive Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn).

The disinformation expert tweeted during the 2020 presidential campaign that Kamala Harris faced four times the dis-and misinformation as men in similar campaigns. True or not, her “solution” is a far-reaching combination of new laws and a partnership between the federal government and tech industry to stifle free speech.

Jankowicz also describes herself as a “Russia expert,” and she previously called the now-verified Hunter Biden laptop “a product of the Trump campaign.” Of course, this is the same person who called herself “the Mary Poppins of disinformation” on a TikTok parody.

And for those who would hopelessly defend the Disinformation Governance Board — which is in desperate need of a different name — look no further than Jankowicz’s own words just a week prior to her new position. Speaking on National Public Radio, she claimed to “shudder” when considering if “free speech absolutists” took over social media platforms. She added her concern for the draconian effects free speech will have on “marginalized communities.

There is exactly one person of national note who regularly describes himself as a “free speech absolutist” and now has a deal to purchase a social media platform. And exactly two days after that deal, the new board was announced and Jankowicz was named its head.

This is hardly a coincidence.

As has been shown over and over, leftists care about free speech when it is their speech. Nina Jankowicz and her dystopian Ministry of Truth should never be handed the keys to social discourse, any more than anyone else should be. That is the purest definition of free speech.
