White House Downplays Trump’s Impact On Hostage Deal With Israel

The Biden administration is facing criticism for its refusal to acknowledge President-elect Donald Trump’s role in brokering the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage release. Despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly thanking both Biden and Trump, the White House continues to downplay Trump’s involvement.

At a recent press conference, Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich questioned Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on why Biden would not give Trump credit. Jean-Pierre insisted that the agreement was the result of the Biden administration’s sustained diplomatic work, dismissing any suggestion that Trump’s pressure influenced the outcome.

However, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller contradicted the administration’s narrative by stating that Trump’s transition team played a “critical” role in securing the deal. Miller acknowledged that both administrations coordinated to help finalize the ceasefire.

President Biden dismissed questions about Trump’s involvement, sarcastically replying, “Is that a joke?” His response sharply contrasts with Netanyahu’s praise for Trump’s role in facilitating the agreement.

Trump took to Truth Social to celebrate the ceasefire, crediting his election win for pressuring Hamas into negotiating. He promised continued support for Israel and pledged to prevent Gaza from becoming a terrorist stronghold.

The Biden administration’s refusal to acknowledge Trump’s involvement has been criticized as politically driven. Many argue that this decision undermines the importance of bipartisan cooperation in achieving significant diplomatic outcomes.
