A recent YouGov poll suggests that Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris could be having an adverse effect on the Vice President’s campaign. Swift announced on Instagram her intention to vote for Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), praising their commitment to social issues.
The poll indicates that only 8% of voters are now more likely to support Harris because of Swift’s endorsement. In contrast, 20% of respondents said they are less likely to vote for Harris due to the endorsement. The majority of those surveyed, 66%, reported that Swift’s announcement did not impact their voting decision.
The poll also sheds light on public sentiment regarding celebrity endorsements. Forty-one percent of respondents believe Swift should refrain from discussing politics, while 38% support her right to make endorsements. The survey found that 66% of participants are not fans of Swift, with 28% considering themselves fans and 6% as “big fans,” mostly women and registered Democrats.
Following Swift’s announcement, there was a noticeable increase in traffic to vote.gov, with 337,826 visitors clicking through from her Instagram link. However, the overall impact of Swift’s endorsement on Harris’s campaign appears limited.
In addition, the poll revealed that 46% of people felt Harris performed better in the debate compared to 19% for former President Donald Trump. Despite this, only 6% said the debate influenced their vote. The findings suggest that while Swift’s endorsement garners attention, it does not necessarily sway voter opinions.
