Following the GOP presidential primaries in Washington, D.C., a leftist election lawyer, Marc E. Elias, boasted that former President Donald Trump could not receive a fair trial in the district, given the small number of votes the former president received in the primary.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Elias pointed out that Trump obtained less than 700 votes in the presidential primary.

The former president was defeated by former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) in the D.C. primary. Notably, the area is one heavily dominated by Democrats, with there being just 23,000 registered Republicans in the city. The Associated Press (AP) noted that President Joe Biden won the district in the 2020 presidential election with 92% of the vote.
Elias, who runs the so-called “Democracy Docket” for Democrats, played an instrumental role in the left’s efforts to discredit the 2016 presidential election, claiming that Trump — a presidential contender at the time — colluded with the Russian government to win the election.
Breitbart News pointed out that Elias also played a key role in threatening states with legal action, forcing them to modify voting laws before the 2020 presidential election to allow mail-in votes — a strategy that benefited Democrats immensely.
Elias admitted that the former president could not receive a fair trial in a district where potential jurors strongly oppose his presidential bid. The prominent leftist election lawyer celebrated as such, claiming it would make prosecuting Trump easier.
The former president faces criminal charges brought forth by Special Counsel Jack Smith relating to his efforts to “overturn” the 2020 presidential election, specifically his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests.
Smith indicted Trump on four counts: conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights.
