The prestigious West Point military academy has chosen to remove the “duty, honor, country” motto from its mission statement, it has been learned.
Instead, the words will be replaced with the phrase “Army Values,” Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland said. The Army Values are a list of seven standardized traits that include respect, duty, loyalty, selfless service, integrity and personal courage.
While such values are certainly worthy, the absence of “country” in the academy’s mission statement seems to be what is most jarring to critics of the change. Without the idea of “country,” and particularly the kind of country America represents, those values could be applied just as easily to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as to the United States.

Although the academy has updated its mission statement several times since 1925, the change is just one more piece of evidence causing concern that the U.S. military is continuing to be infiltrated by “woke” agendas.
Indeed, it seems the trend since the 1990s is that every time there is a Democrat president, the military becomes weakened and turns into a social experiment for far-left activists. As soon as Joe Biden took office, the military again shifted its focus onto “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” while it simultaneously began removing statues and changing the names of bases that honored famous military leaders.
As the military has drastically cut funding compared to the Trump era and its weapons and supplies have been drained and left unreplaced due to the war in Ukraine, it has also continued to struggle in reaching its recruitment goals.
Meanwhile, the militaries of adversarial nations like China do not bother themselves with divisive political correctness, but plow aggressively forward with military expansion, training and armorment while actively seeking to undermine the United States in unconventional ways by funding causes that create division and collapse in our society.
As the Democratic party continues to move further to the far-left and Marxist political forces now show their colors in our society unashamedly, it is more important than ever for the United States to preserve a patriotic core of values in its institutions.
