Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is among many outraged over the Tuesday stabbing death of a valiant K-9 who protected a corrections officer from a vicious attack by inmate gang members.
The violent encounter unfolded at Sussex I State Prison. The prisoners reportedly descended on K-9 Riven, and the dog was “repeatedly stabbed and kicked” by the attackers who had ganged up on Corrections Officer Kharmishia Phillip Fields.
All four were illegal migrants and are believed to be members of the notorious MS-13 gang. Yet again, Biden’s open border leads directly to an American tragedy.
Youngkin was clearly upset over the tragic death of the K-9 officer. He posted on X, formerly Twitter, “God bless Rivan, a heroic K-9 who was killed in the line of duty in Virginia. These barbaric members of MS-13 will be held accountable.”
The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) posted a photo of Rivan and an announcement of his killing on X.
Officials wrote, “The VADOC is mourning the line of duty death of Rivan, a K-9 killed by MS-13 members while heroically protecting its assigned Corrections Officer, staff and inmates at Sussex I State Prison.”

VADOC Director Chad Dotson credited the K-9 with possibly saving two lives. “He lost his life while potentially saving the lives of two people, his assigned Officer and an inmate. The VADOC will never forget Rivan’s sacrifice.”
The four illegal migrant suspects are from El Salvador and Guatemala. Three are confirmed members of MS-13 and face charges including first degree homicide, kidnapping/abduction, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, grand larceny and drug possession.
They are expected to face even more charges after Tuesday’s violent incident.
Dotson also commended his corrections officer for bravery. “Officer Phillip Fields has the agency’s full support during this difficult time and I personally wish her well in her recovery. The heroics she displayed…demonstrate her courage [and] her commitment to public safety.
Rivan would have turned six on April 30. He was a Belgian Malinos.
