Biden Administration To Build Border Wall Amid Immigration Crisis

President Joe Biden has come under fire after his administration announced it will build a border wall in Texas as illegal immigration surges across the U.S.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stressed an “acute and immediate need” to build a border wall in Texas and waive federal laws, as the Post Millennial reported.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas pursuant to sections 102 (a) and 102(b) of [the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996],” Mayorkas said.

Trump lashed out at Biden over DHS’s announcement, telling Fox News, “Biden sees our country is being invaded. What is he going to do about the 15 million people from prisons, from mental institutions, insane asylums, and terrorists that have already come into our country?”

In a statement, Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign slammed the Biden administration, writing, “President Trump is always right. That’s why he built close to 500 miles of powerful new wall on the border, and it would have been finished by now. Instead, Crooked Joe Biden turned our country into one giant sanctuary for dangerous criminal aliens.”

The DHS announcement comes after the U.S. has experienced record-high amounts of illegal border crossings since Biden’s inauguration.

Over 5 million illegal immigrants have crossed the southern border into America since 2021, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). So far, in 2023, more than 2.2 million immigrants have illegally entered the U.S.

Such a development comes after Democrats, including Biden, repeatedly attacked former President Donald Trump for constructing a wall along the southern border during his tenure.

In 2020, Biden promised not to continue Trump’s border wall. As well all know, this is one of the many promises Biden never fulfilled.

“There will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration!” then-candidate Biden said at the time, adding that a border wall is “just one example of the prior administration’s misplaced priorities and failure to manage migration in a safe, orderly and humane way.”
