With illegal immigration on the rise and drugs pouring into the U.S. in record numbers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently revealed that its agents had seized over $117 million worth of methamphetamine at Eagle Pass, Texas.
Agents took over 6.5 tons of the drug, marking the largest amount that CBP has ever secured at a port of entry, according to Just the News.
The seizure occurred at the Camino Real International Bridge and involved a canine inspection of a tractor-trailer to reveal the drugs.
Laredo Field Office Field Operations Director Donald Kusser released a statement, calling the seizure “gargantuan,” noting that it was the largest ever conducted by CBP officials.
“This gargantuan methamphetamine seizure, the largest ever taken down by CBP officers at a port of entry, uniquely illustrates the serious narcotics threat our officers face on a daily basis and their effectiveness at utilizing our technological enforcement tools, expertise and experience to zero-in on these threats,” Kusser said.
CBP’s seizure comes as the Biden administration faces increasing criticism over its refusal to secure the southern border, which led House Republicans to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The announcement also comes as the president reportedly contemplates using executive actions to curtail illegal immigration at the border. Although he has yet to announce enacting any policies regarding the crisis, such rumors have prompted many on the left who favor loose immigration policies to criticize the Biden administration.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) went as far as to suggest that President Joe Biden was trying to impersonate former President Donald Trump by considering signing tougher immigration measures.
“Doing Trump impressions isn’t how we beat Trump,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Seeking asylum is a legal right of all people. In the face of authoritarian threat, we should not buckle on our principles — we should commit to them. The mere suggestion is outrageous and the President should refuse to sign it.”

House Republicans are skeptical of the rumored moves, with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) calling on Biden to reimplement Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy.
Since Biden took office, millions of illegal immigrants have poured across the southern border. The president’s refusal to enact border security measures has allowed notorious cartels to import drugs into the U.S., such as fentanyl, which has killed more than 100,000 Americans.
