Biden Praises George Floyd, BLM In New Statement

The death of George Floyd during an arrest related to his alleged use of counterfeit money sparked nationwide protests and societal unrest throughout the summer of 2020.

Although the officers involved in the fatal interaction have been prosecuted, many activists continue to demonize police officers in general and call for the defunding of law enforcement agencies.

On what would have been Floyd’s 50th birthday, President Joe Biden released a statement echoing the complaints of Black Lives Matter and related entities that have used the death to advance their respective political agendas.

“George Floyd should be alive,” the president declared. “He should be celebrating his 50th birthday with his young daughter Giana, family and friends. He deserved so much more.”
Biden went on to “honor” Floyd’s “life and legacy,” denouncing the “tragedy and injustice of his death.”

As for the outbreak of violence, theft and property damage that came to define the months following the fateful incident, he described the riots as “one of the largest civil rights movements in our nation’s history,” which “inspired the world” and illuminated the supposedly racist underpinnings of U.S. society.

“The day before her father’s funeral, Gianna told me, ‘Daddy changed the world,’” Biden added. “Three years after her father’s murder, my answer to Gianna remains the same: He has.”

As with countless other topics throughout his administration, Biden used the opportunity to turn the focus toward himself by touting the police reform measures he has supported while chiding local, state and federal officials for not doing more.

“I will continue to do everything in my power to fight for police accountability and urge Congress to pass meaningful reform and send it to my desk,” he said. “I will sign it.”
Although his statement ended with a plea to “redeem the soul of America,” he neglected to mention the fact that Black Lives Matter leaders have spent the past week demonizing Israel and tacitly praising the Hamas terrorists who staged an unprovoked attack that targeted innocent men, women and children.

Instead, he chose to praise the organization while signaling that there is nothing his administration can do to save American hostages in Israel.
